A background in mining and maintenance & trades on the tools.

There were the years as a heavy equipment mechanic where expectations were high and you were given problems to solve on your own. I was very fortunate to work at a time where we had good mentorship and even better maintenance systems, practices and expectations so success was very attainable. One trade led to the next where I transitioned into instrumentation and process control which ended up being a fortunate transition and timing. On the tools success led to project and management roles which would lead to the most fortunate transition of all, working in research and projects with the former Noranda Technology Centre in Pointe Claire Quebec. The years working there opened doors into diesel exhaust emissions research and development and becoming a recognized expert in the field of measuring and managing emissions and diesel engines. Years following the time at the research center would be sharing and transferring that knowledge through consulting as well as roles in managing mine mobile assets and maintenance reliability. Looking back from my fifth decade working in mining and maintenance I have the same passion now as I did as an apprentice with that desire to learn and discover new technology and machines. The people and ability to share and learn with them are what makes it still as much fun as it was in the beginning but still in the end …. It’s all about the machine.

about Sean

True story:

Around the ripe old age of five my mother who was an academic would repeatedly tell me that I was going to be a Rhodes scholar when I grew up. My five year old interpretation of this was that I would be the guy who would build roads with tractors and trucks and where do I sign up. I was the fourth generation on my mother’s side and third on my dad’s side to work in mining (and the same mine) and both sides had very different plans for me but tractors and trucks still won. I can’t imagine having had more fun, more passion, more great people and great places discovered around the world if it hadn’t been for tractors and trucks – and mining. Many, many years later mom would come to finally agree with me even without the Rhodes thing!

“I have in my day taken a great number of courses regarding all aspects of the HDEM and automotive fields and this course by far exceeded any and all expectations I had regarding the topics covered. He was very down to earth, showed and experienced outlook, yet spoke in terms every man in the room understood. Just in the weeks following his presentation we have used his teachings to correct a scoop engine problem that has existed for some time now at a considerable cost savings”.
